On the coldest winter days, the wide and shallow Canyon Creek freezes over and becomes the very best place to go ice skating! Olivia brought along her purple skates and her new best friend Marietta, who had never been skating before. Marietta was a bit unsteady at first and fell down a few times, but with Olivia's help she got right back up on her feet.
The creek is tucked away in a beautiful, hidden, steep-sided canyon that offers plenty of quiet solitude. It can be tricky to catch the ice at the perfect time and condition--when it's not been too snowy or too warm. It has become a favorite place for my dolls and me.
After skating for a few hours, the two girls went indoors and warmed up by the fireplace with mugs of hot cocoa.
Marietta and Olivia are both Starpath dolls. Ice skates are American Girl brand. Marietta's pompom hat, maple leaf scarf, leggings, and mittens are by Maplelea. Her sweater was made by me. Olivia's purple shirt, jacket, and headband are by Starpath. Her gray leggings were made by me. Her mittens are by Maplelea and her scarf is by AG.

Lesser Slave Lake, AB (No. 1)
Slave Lake is a town in northern Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124. It is approximately 255 km (158 mi) northwest of Edmonton. It is located on the southeast shore of Lesser Slave Lake at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 88.
Slave Lake serves as a local centre for the area. The administrative office for the Sawridge First Nation is also located in the town.
The first European known to visit the area of the present-day Town of Slave Lake was the British explorer David Thompson, who arrived in 1799. Following his brief visit, other British agents established several fur trading posts around Slave Lake, including a Hudson's Bay Company post at the mouth of the lake.
A settlement developed around the post and became known as Sawridge. It was renamed as Slave Lake in 1923. After a flood in the 1930s destroyed much of the town, it was relocated and rebuilt at its current location on higher ground. It was incorporated as a town in 1965.
The Town of Slave Lake was inundated by a flood of Sawridge Creek in July 1988.

Summer Saturdays Vol. 8
BAKING
I made these blue sky bran muffins because Nathan loves a bran muffin and they turned out great! Will add walnuts to the next batch.
COOKING
I was walking through the farmer’s market and was hit with the greatest idea of something to make: CAPRESE SCONES. So I found a recipe and it’s happening tonight. I’m going to use my already-made basil pesto (I use walnuts instead of pine nuts) instead of just plain basil leaves, so I can’t wait to see how it goes.
CRAVING
The baby tomatoes this time of year taste like candy. They are incredible.

DRINKING
I made peach daiquiris for us and the only time I love an alcoholic frozen drink is at home. They’re so easy to make and it’s completely satisfying to just have one.

EATING
I tried a sample of the Tropicana orange soft serve at Milk Bar and wow was it gross. What is happening with Milk Bar? No Thanksgiving croissant last year and now this?

EXPERIENCING
I went to the restaurant Hillstone (my first time) and I have fallen in love (thank you to Irene for introducing me!). The service was outstanding and the food was ridiculously perfect. (And if you’re from Ontario, the vibe is extremely Canyon Creek-y, which obviously made me happier than I can express.) They bring you a chilled glass midway through drinking your cocktail and the salad plates come chilled, too. Is the secret to a perfect restaurant just chilling stuff? IT MIGHT BE.

LISTENING
It has been so rainy and windy this week, it’s been amazing. My desk is right between two large windows so I keep the windows open wide mainly to hear all the wild weather noise. It’s a nice change from the garbage trucks and horns that are usually the norm.
LOVING
I cannot get enough of the RFK jokes. Haven’t seen a bad one yet.
Above Photo: Can we please make, “Looks like the worm is at the wheel” a common expression when someone is acting insane?
SHOPPING
I stopped by the best post office in the city in Union Square and got an insanely good stamp haul. I’ve been looking for those Lichtenstein ones for months.
Above Photo: A beautiful stamp might cure depression?
WATCHING
Saw Trap in theatres and liked two thirds of it! I also watched the horror movie Thanksgiving, which was actually pretty great. Surprising for me because I don’t love Eli Roth.
WEARING
I’ve abandoned my pink nails in search of something new. ‘Seas the Day’ by Essie is a minty-blue that I’m kind of loving.

Havasu Falls, Havasu Creek, Grand Canyon, Arizona: Havasu Falls is a waterfall of Havasu Creek, located in the Grand Canyon, Arizona, United States. It is within Havasupai tribal lands. Havasu Falls is located 1.5 miles from Supai. It is the more famous and most visited of the various falls along Havasu Creek. It consists of one main chute that drops over a 90-to-100-foot vertical cliff into a series of plunge pools. High calcium carbonate concentration in the water creates the vivid blue-green color and forms the natural travertine dams that occur in various places near the falls. Wikipedia
